Autoimmunity means the condition where the immune system (the system involved in disease prevention by attacking the microbes and other foreign bodies entering body) attacks body’s own cells. Autoimmunity causes diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis etc. These diseases are often treated in specialities like immunology (treating diseases of immune system), rheumatology (specialized in diseases caused by inflammation of bones, muscles and organs), endocrinology (manging diseases due hormonal imbalance) etc.
