Systematic ayurvedic cure for Glaucoma
In Ayurveda, glaucoma comes under the head – Adhimandha. Next, confirmation of predominant dosha and associated symptoms take place. This leads to, classification as vatadhimandha, pittadhimandha, kaphadhimandha, or rakthadhimandha. The treatment for each condition is different from one another.

Types of Glaucoma
According to science, there are two types of Glaucoma:
Open-angle Glaucoma – simple chronic glaucoma
It is a silent enemy. The onset is gradual and without considerable symptoms. Hence, most patients are unaware of the development of the disease. In a very early stage, there will be no visual symptoms. Mild headache, the heaviness of head are common. Feeling of fullness in the eye more in the morning or evening is also seen. Visual symptoms also start to develop. A decrease in distant vision is one of them. A decrease in the visual field, especially, peripheral is another main symptom. As the symptoms increases, the patient moves towards blindness.
Closed-angle Glaucoma – acute congestive glaucoma
Here, the onset is sudden. Redness of eye and congestion of vessels are the main symptoms. Severe pain, photophobia, and headache are also seen. If not handled with care, there are chances of loss of eyesight within a few days.
Ayurvedic Theory on the treatment of Glaucoma
In Ayurveda, glaucoma comes under the head – Adhimandha. Next, confirmation of predominant dosha and associated symptoms take place. This leads to, classification as vatadhimandha, pittadhimandha, kaphadhimandha, or rakthadhimandha. The treatment for each condition is different from one another. Analysis of Signs and symptoms of each case happens on the basis of the tridosha theory. Next, doctors confirm the predominant dosha. Only after that, ayurvedic eye treatment starts. That means treatment may vary from one individual to another.
In vatadhimandha, Vata Samana and Snigdha therapies are preferable. In pittadhimandha, doctors administer pitta rakta sodhana therapy. In kaphadhimandha, doctors administer Kapha sodhana and Siro virechana procedures. In rakthadhimandha, rakthasodhana should be the first choice. Internal medicines, generally sodhana in nature also is compulsory. Appropriate dietary schedules and regulations in other habitual factors also are necessary.
