Anti Ageing Ayurvedic Treatment

Ageing is a natural and inevitable process in life of every human being. Ageing begins from the moment when a baby is born. Passing through the decades, the individual grows physically, mentally as well as emotionally. Gradually, the body enters a destructive phase from a constructive one. Visible changes of ageing can be seen physically although there is mental as well as emotional changes. Ageing leads to increased dependency (physical, emotional, financial, social etc).

Ageing Signs and Symptoms

Physical– wrinkling of skin, greying of hair, loss of vision and hearing, changes in body posture, joint pains, reduced appetite, fatigue, increased rate of breathing and heart rate especially during physical activity or even walking, easily fragile bones, reduced body flexibility, hypertension, urinary and bowel incontinence, recurrent infections, erectile dysfunction, vaginal dryness, etc.

Mental– memory problems, sleeplessness, lack of concentration, loss of libido, mood changes, etc.

Ageing Ayurvedic Analysis

Jara is the condition characterised by various physical, mental and emotional changes. The age at which jara occurs may differ from person to person, but in general after the age of 50 a person enters the phase of jara because of the decline in cell growth. Vata increases at this phase of life leading to several diseases (due to aggravation of vata) such as vatashonita (inflammatory joint diseases), vatavyadhi (diseases affecting bones, joints, muscles, nerves, ligaments and tendons), badhirya (hearing loss), timira (vision problems), prameha (diabetes, urinary incontinence), hrdroga (heart diseases), swasa (breathing difficulty), pakshaghata (stroke), vruddhi (BPH) etc. other features include vali (wrinkling of skin), palita (greying of hair), khalitya (hair fall and baldness), nidranasha (sleeplessness), smrti bhramsha (poor memory), aruchi (loss of taste/ appetite), karshya (emaciation) etc. The power of agni (digestive fire/ transforming energy in bodily tissues) is reduced and dhatukshaya (derangement of tissues) occurs.

Possible Complications of Ageing

Increased dependency (physically, emotionally, financially), irritation, poor quality of life, increased risk of infections, loss of libido, etc are the major complications of ageing.

Other systemic diseases and precautions to be taken

Consider other conditions like diabetes, hypertension, stroke etc before planning treatment.

Ageing Management with Ayurveda Treatment

Ayurveda provides special care for preventing ageing and reducing its complications, namely rasayana chikilsa (which includes anti-ageing therapy). It includes internal medicines, purificatory therapies, dietary modifications etc. Anti-ageing must be started at an early age (about 35- 45 years of age) before the onset of ageing. Body purification is the major treatment which includes snehana (oil massage), swedana (sudation therapy), nasya (nasal instillation of medicine), virechana (purgation therapy), etc.

Diet

Avoid spicy, oily, very hot, heavy to digest food items. Include more whole grains, green and leafy vegetables, nuts, fruits, milk, dairy products, small fishes, egg, etc in diet.

Exercise

Mild to moderate exercise is recommended to do regularly as per the guidance of the physician. Yoga, meditation and pranayama are also beneficial.
