Ayurvedic Analysis

Age a person growing old, vata increases and it produces several symptoms. Impaired memory is one among them. Ayurveda mentions it as ‘smriti bhramsha’, or ‘smrti nasha’

Causative Factors (Ayurveda)

Smrti (memory) is the function of vata. Udana vayu (a type of vata) which travels in the body parts above shoulders controls smrti. Prajna (cognition) comprises smrti, dhee (intellect) and dhrti (will-power). Ageing causes vata dushti which results in smrti nasha. Smrti bhramsha is a sign of prajnaparadha (impaired cognitive strength).
